A MAN spent a “steep” £5.80 on a hot chocolate at a Christmas market – and didn’t even enjoy the experience.
Alexander Smail visited Edinburgh‘s festive attraction to check out if it was really worth the hype but left feeling “underwhelmed”.

With thousands of tourists and locals flocking to the market every year, Edinburgh is renowned for getting people in the Christmas spirit.
But on its opening weekend, Alexander said it wasn’t as magical as he was hoping.
Writing in the Daily Record, he said it lacked “festive ambience” with its half-naked Christmas trees and the noise from the speakers was deafening.
But the “disappointing” trip didn’t stop there.
Alexander told how he was left astonished at the cost of food, drinks and rides.
Branding it an extremely pricey day out, he wrote: “I paid £7.50 for a small box of five churros with chocolate sauce.
“They were perfectly serviceable, though to be honest I’m not sure they were worth the price.
“After the churros, I was feeling thirsty, and there is nothing festive than a cup of hot chocolate — so I hunted around to see if I could pick some up.
“I eventually did find a stall serving it, but was disappointed to find out it cost £5.80 for a ‘deluxe hot chocolate’.
“The drink — which was served with whipped cream, marshmallows, and a flake — was undeniably tasty, but considering how quickly it disappeared, almost £6 seemed awfully steep.”
The tourist expert headed over to take a look at the rides after his pricey snack break.
But the excitement to ride the big wheel was short lived when he realised it was ten quid per person for one go.
He added: “After walking out of the Edinburgh Christmas Market, I felt ultimately underwhelmed.
“There were some nice stalls selling some interesting items — some of which were very reasonably priced — but all in all my main takeaways were that the market was just kind of noisy and expensive.
“On opening weekend, the Edinburgh Christmas Market was a disappointment.”
