The Wetherspoons pub has been repeatedly dubbed the “worst pub” in the Black Country – with more than 118 of bad reviews on TripAdvisor.
The drinker paid a visit to the establishment to try out their popular new Christmas menu.
But after just a few minutes inside the man said how he witnessed a brawl between Wetherspoons staff and another customer who blasted “I’ll smash your f****** face in!”.
He told BirminghamLive: “I’d only been sat in The Square Peg for a couple of minutes before things started to kick off.
“The sight of a man getting dragged out by his collar, throwing aimless punches at a member of staff was still a shock at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon.”
“This is, of course, the most notorious Wetherspoon in the city.”
The branch recently launched a new Wetherspoon’s Christmas menu – which includes traditional turkey diners, festive burgers, paninis and seasonal pizzas.
But the punter said he wasn’t blown away by the £15 meal.
He explained: “I ordered myself a turkey dinner and a pint from the comfort of my chair using the nifty app, all for the oddly specific price of £14.67.
“The festive fist-fight I’d witnessed hadn’t quite put me in the best of moods for my first Christmas dinner of the year, but the swift arrival of my pint made me feel a lot more at ease.
“On the food, I can’t say I was blown away, but I won’t say I was left disappointed either.”
The pub was recently refurbished to include an improved customer area and a new bar.
But despite the £850,000 transformation, customers still think is one of the “worst” pubs in the area.
Many took to reviewing site TripAdvisor to share their disappointment.
Out of 702 reviews on the site, which ranks eating establishments by customer satisfaction, it has three and a half stars out of five.
One said: “This pub may have been refurbished but it’s still one of the worst Spoons.
“Unfortunately it’s made worse by the clientele, two people smoking weed behind us and staff were clearly turning a blind eye.
“Food was okay, and quite prompt with service, but it’s still a very scruffy pub despite the huge amount of money recently spent on its refurbishment. It’s definitely one to avoid.”
But others disagreed and more than 130 punters claimed the pub is “excellent”.
Another said: “I went for dinner and it was very good. I was not waiting long to be served even though the pub was full. I would go back again.”
Responding to the criticism a Wetherspoon’s spokesperson said the pub is widely popular among locals and the Christmas menu is sold at reasonable prices.
They said: “The customer is entitled to his view. The Christmas menu we offer and the price is extremely popular with customers.
“The Square Peg is one of the busiest in the city centre. It is popular with customers and is well managed. Incidents like the one you witnessed are rare, however we apologise to our customers for this.
“The pub attracts ten of thousands of customers per year. TripAdvisor views do not represent the pub and some of the statements do not represent that of customers.”
It comes as Wetherspoon’s fans were mourning the loss of an ‘iconic’ art deco pub which has finally given out its last orders.
The iconic pub known as The Capitol located in Forest Hill, closed its doors for the last time on October 15.
