A WOMAN who was duped into having sex with a trans man has said she has finally made peace with her traumatic past.

Megan Adie, 29, was tricked by a person she met at a funfair when she was just 15 who she thought was a 17-year-old boy.

The pair went on to date for eight months but Megan was left stunned when cops turned up and told her that her ex was actually a 23-year-old woman transitioning to become a transgender man.

The revelation led the mum-of-five to self-harm and the brink of suicide.

But after studying psychology, she launched the Not Past It Yet podcast, and credits it with helping her to move on from her ordeal.

The aspiring podcast host and mental health champion said: “For me I have in a sense forgiven her for what she did, but to do that I’ve had to look at the issues with me. I couldn’t see the red flags.

“Clearly she had her own issues and mental health suffering.”

The woman, who we are unable to name, was convicted of two charges of obtaining sexual intimacy by fraud.

She was spared jail and the ordeal left Megan with major questions.

Megan said: “There’s a lot of people that don’t understand how I didn’t recognise that he was a boy, but it was because of the nature of how these acts were carried out.

“There was physically no sighting of her body. It massively gave me a chemical imbalance in my mental health – I got sectioned for three years.

“I questioned my sexual orientation and my identity. I didn’t want to be here anymore and had several suicide attempts.”

Megan, from Aberdeen, previously waived her right anonymity to speak about the ordeal and says working on herself has helped her to move forward.

The podcast sees her talk to mental health experts and other people affected by trauma.

She said: “I wanted to understand mental health better. I’ve made peace with what happened and I think it’s given me the lessons to be where I am now.

“But there’s so much stigma. A lot of people need to understand that you don’t have to be on medication and can have a path of personal development.

“I’ve lost a lot of friends to suicide. When Covid hit I became part of a personal development community.

“I want to help people. Everyone who has come on the podcast has their own experiences.

“It’s been really interesting, the males listening to the podcast have been bigger than the females. It’s been listened to across America, Australia, and in the UK.”

Following her ordeal, Megan appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show to talk about her troubling past.

But she admitted she regrets going on the iconic ITV chat programme.

She added: “That was a traumatic experience in itself. I was very vulnerable.

“I phoned and wanted to set the record straight after stuff that was printed in the papers. But I regret going on there, it was a silly thing.”

The second series of Not Past It Yet will be released on December 12.
