IBRAHIMA KONATE’S phone is blowing up with calls from Kylian Mbappe trying to persuade him to join Real Madrid.

Konate, 26, has been linked with a switch to the Spanish giants all summer, but chose to stay put at Liverpool this season.

That hasn’t stopped the centre-back’s international teammate, Mbappe, from trying to get him to ditch Merseyside for Madrid.

Asked if Mbappe is pressuring him to make the move to the continent, Konate joked in an interview with French TV: “He calls me every two hours”.

Of course, there is a strong element of tongue-in-cheek in the Frenchman’s response.

However, his future does appear to be shifting towards a move to Los Blancos.

Reports have claimed that Konate has turned down multiple contract extensions at Anfield in recent months.

With his current terms set to expire at the end of the season, Konate could follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s footsteps by leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Real are known to be huge fans of Konate, but have already added Dean Huijsen to their ranks this summer and are also long-term admirers of Arsenal star William Saliba.

Saliba, 24, would be a trickier signing for the La Liga club, however.

That’s because the Gunners defender is currently contracted until 2027 and would command a huge fee for Arsenal execs to sign off on a deal.

While he has also been open about his desire to extend his stay in North London.

Asked whether he will sign a new deal during Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Singapore, Saliba said: “Yes, hopefully.

“Of course there is nothing now but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let’s see.”
