The German sex offender is suspected of kidnapping British toddler Madeleine McCann – a claim which he deniesAFP

He is the only reporter to see Brueckner in prison, but his fellow German refused to discuss missing Madeleine, while remaining “ice cool”.

Oppold said: “I asked him, ‘Do you regret anything? Is there any kind of remorse you feel towards anything, what happened in the past?’.

“And his answer was, ‘This is one of these questions I definitely don’t want to answer’.

“My impression was there was a man sitting in front of me who doesn’t feel any guilt, any remorse.”

Quizzed over court claims that he was a psychopath, Brueckner smirked: “I’m not dangerous.”

He is serving time for raping a woman, 72, in Praia da Luz in 2005 — two years before Madeleine, three, vanished from the Portugal resort.

We revealed yesterday his early release from Sehnde jail in the next few days was due to a German cop paying a £1,300 court fine.

Rebecca K said she felt his rights were violated.

Investigators want Brueckner, prime suspect in the Madeleine case since 2020, to be fitted with an electronic tag.

Asked by Oppold if he will flee, he replied: “I’m not sure yet.”

German officials hope UK cops will reopen their live probe.
