AN illegal immigrant faces the boot from Britain — after he saw red and attacked a Sunday League football rival, we can reveal.

The Congolese man, 29, was arrested after breaking an opponent’s jaw during celebrations following the match.

His 22-year-old victim had to have his battered jaw wired and plated.

The attack happened in the immigrant’s adopted home city of Sheffield where he was playing for an amateur side.

The match had been tense as the prize at stake was a chance to compete in a game at Premier League side Sheffield United’s home ground.

The thug, who had earlier been refused asylum, was convicted at court of GBH with intent and was locked up for 15 months.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was told he faced deportation.

He launched a legal fight against the Home Office’s order, claiming kicking him out of the country would separate him from his children, who were five and 23 months and lived here with his fiancée.

The migrant, who worked for Sheffield council as a support adviser before the assault, claimed it was too dangerous for his children to move to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa.

He had arrived in the UK in 2010 as an unaccompanied minor and claimed asylum, which was refused, but was granted discretionary leave to remain until 2012.

Attempts to trace his father in Africa failed and he was given refugee status until 2017.

It was revoked and a human rights claim was rejected.

He then came to the attention of the Home Office following his 2018 conviction.

An immigration judge dismissed the amateur footballer’s appeal to stay, saying there was a “strong public interest” in removing him from the UK.

He said that his “offence was clearly an act of gratuitous violence”.
