Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings preview
A new champion will be crowned on Tuesday as Punjab Kings take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final at the colossal 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This finale guarantees a maiden title for one of the IPL’s nearly-men. Despite being among the original franchises when the tournament launched in 2008, neither side has managed to lift the trophy.
RCB are making their fourth appearance in an IPL final, having previously finished runners-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016.
They carry form and motivation into this encounter as they look to help Indian great Virat Kohli finally get his hands on the elusive IPL trophy.
Kohli, who announced his retirement from Test cricket last month, has led from the front throughout this campaign.
The 36-year-old has amassed 614 runs in 14 innings – the most by any RCB player this season including eight half-centuries.
Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood has been equally influential with the ball, taking 21 wickets, including a standout 3-21 in RCB’s thumping eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings just five days ago – a result that could give RCB a psychological edge heading into the final.
Punjab Kings, meanwhile, have had to wait over a decade for a shot at redemption.
This marks their first appearance in an IPL final since 2014, when they fell short against Kolkata Knight Riders. In fact, this is the first time since that campaign that they’ve even reached the playoffs.
But captain Shreyas Iyer, who cost £2.5million in November’s auction, has given PBKS renewed belief.
Iyer, who captained last year’s champions, now stands on the brink of back-to-back titles – and a unique piece of history. He is the first captain in IPL history to have led three different franchises to a final.
With Australia legend Ricky Ponting at the helm as head coach, PBKS will be hoping to finally etch their name into IPL folklore.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings preview betting tips and predictions
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer both to score 50 – 7/1 with bet365
Kohli, the IPL’s all-time leading run scorer has eight half centuries to his name for Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season, including five in his last seven innings, while no other player in the tournament has achieved more than six this year.
One of those with six is the Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, whose unbeaten 87 against Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 on Sunday night catapulted the Kings to their first final in 11 years.
Iyer is Punjab’s leading run scorer this season with an average of 55 and loves playing at Ahmedabad – scoring 97* and 87* in his two innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium this season.
Josh Hazlewood to take 3+ wickets – 9/2 with bet365
The RCB pace bowler has taken nine wickets in his last three matches in the business end of the season, including three against Punjab Kings in the opening game of the play-offs last Thursday in a man of the match performance.
The Australian is the Bengaluru franchise’s leading wicket taker this season with 21 to his name and is still in the hunt for Purple Cap for the most dismissals in the tournament, currently four wickets behind the current leader.
