JACOB Rees-Mogg yesterday branded PM Rishi Sunak’s new anti-woke minister a “ridiculously tokenistic” appointment.

But the backlash to Sunak’s reshuffle was growing last night after the PM tried to buy off the right with Esther McVey’s appointment.
Mr Rees-Mogg said of Esther McVey, the new minister without portfolio: “I welcome Esther’s return because I think she’s highly capable and a good presenter of the Tory cause.”
But he added: “Having a minister for woke is silly.
“I think it’s an extraordinary thing to do and is not serious, but Esther is a very good person and to have her in the cabinet is a good thing.”
He went on: “I think silly titles for government posts is a Blairite thing.
“That is not the proper business of government. This is ridiculously tokenistic, won’t impress anybody.”
The MP also warned No10 that Lord Cameron might outshine Mr Sunak saying he “looked very prime ministerial” arriving at No10.
He said: “People may be confused as to who is actually representing the UK at the highest level.”
