JEREMY Hunt took a dig at his Cabinet colleague Suella Braverman today, saying he “wouldn’t use her words” on migration.

On the second day of Tory Party Conference in Manchester, the Chancellor took a jab at the Home Secretary for insisting multiculturalism has “failed” in Britain.

And he hit back at her claim that immigrants haven’t tried to assimilate into the UK and its culture.

Mr Hunt, whose wife is Chinese, stressed the economic benefits of allowing skilled and legal migrants into the country.

He told TalkTV: “I am married to an immigrant and I’ve always believed that we benefit massively as a country from welcoming the brightest and best from all over the world.

“Suella Braverman wouldn’t use my words, I wouldn’t use her words.”

In a major speech in the US last week Ms Braverman ruffled feathers as she argued small boat migrants are pretending to be gay to be let in to the UK.

The Home Secretary also called on world leaders to rip up the UN Convention on Refugees, arguing it’s no longer fit for purpose.

Responding to the comments on illegal migration, Mr Hunt said: “She’s absolutely right that the social contract that makes Britain one of the most tolerant countries in the world when it comes to immigrants depends on fairness.”

“What we’re seeing at the moment with these criminal gangs smuggling thousands of people over the Channel is not fair.

“It’s an abuse of the way the law works in Britain, it’s an abuse of all the public services that you get free of charge here.”
