He confirmed the news in a brief tweet, which read: “Diagnosed this week with colon cancer.
“Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”
Fans were shocked and devastated by the announcement, with one saying: “Oh God, sorry to hear that JR. Wish you all the best.”
Another added: “Thinking of you JR. Get well soon.”
More commented: “Wishing you the very best. We are all praying and pulling for you.”
Ross has bravely beaten the illness before, revealing in 2021 that he overcame skin cancer.
It took the California-born icon 20 radiation treatments to win the battle.
Other health issues have seen him need surgery on a broken hip.
It left him needing rehabilitation and he was forced to walk with a cane.
The legendary commentator, announcer and analyst is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling and he is also a senior adviser to the company.
But Ross is best known for his work in WWE and is regarded by many as the sport‘s greatest commentator of all-time.
Such was his popularity, JR was involved in storylines and took to the ring himself nine times between 1999 to 2011.
