THIS is the horrible moment a jockey was instantly knocked out after being headbutted by an unruly horse.

Poor Micheal Hellyer backflipped off his mount and smashed into the ground during the parade ring incident.

Micheal Hellyer gets the leg up on the horse before all hell breaks loose

This is the nasty moment the horse rears its head into the jockey’s face

Hellyer is catapulted instantly out of the saddle

It looks like he was completely knocked out before he hit the deck – and was lucky to avoid a more serious injury

He had just got a leg up onto the runner when it reared its head and smashed its rider in the face.

Hellyer had no time to react and his head was catapulted backwards in an instant.

Appearing to be concussed right away, Hellyer was then unable to break his fall as he backflipped to earth.

It was a minor miracle he wasn’t more seriously injured, especially given how he looked to land with his full body weight on his head.

Clarifying the injuries he suffered as a result of the pre-race flashpoint in Toowoomba, Australia, Hellyer said: “Thank you to everyone that reached out.

“Very lucky to have come away with just a busted lip and concussion.

“Look forward to being back in the saddle in a couple of weeks.”

Sky Sports Racing host Tim Carroll was among those stunned by the smash.

He wrote on X: “Anyone that’s ever been whacked like this will tell you, it does hurt.

“Half a chance that whack in the head was enough to knock Micheal out before he hit the deck.

“Good to hear he’s OK.”
