JOCKEY Sam James has been taken to hospital following an incident at Ascot on Friday.
Another jockey’s horse, Excellent Echo, tragically suffered fatal injuries from the incident.

Excellent Echo’s jockey Oisin Murphy is ‘fine’, while James’ horse Nordic Norm is undergoing assessments for cuts and scratches.
A statement from Ascot read: “Unfortunately, following an incident during the seventh race today, Excellent Echo suffered a fatal injury. His jockey, Oisin Murphy, walked in and was fine.
“Nordic Norm was taken to the stables for further assessment with cuts and scratches.
“His jockey, Sam James, was conscious and treated by medical teams on the track and has been transferred to the hospital for further assessment.”
In the closing Sodexo Live! Handicap, the Murphy-ridden favourite Excellent Echo appeared to clip heels and fell, bringing down Nordic Norm and James.
Murphy was quickly up but James stayed down on the track for several minutes, before being stretchered onto a waiting ambulance and rushed to hospital.
Nordic Norm got up without issue, but Excellent Echo reportedly suffered a broken leg, before trying to head up the track.
The horse continued on until he was met by his handler near the winning post, where black screens were erected for privacy.
A horse ambulance was rushed to the scene for the three-year-old horse, but the injuries proved fatal.
The shocking scenes overshadowed the outcome of the race, which was won by Forty Years On and jockey Callum Shepherd.
