Now 15 years later he has become a household name having featured on dozens of series both in the UK and overseas.

But on Saturday in Manchester, he embarks on his most daring challenge of all when he steps into the ring.

Essex faces Portuguese influencer Numeiro in his Misfits Boxing debut – hoping to become the new face of celebrity-style crossover bouts.

The 35-year-old gave SunSport an unprecedented look into his training camp under the guidance of his uncle and trainer Tony Sims.

And Essex gave us a wide smile – showing off his pearly whites – when he talked down the risk of damaging his famously pretty face.

He said: “I’ve got no concerns about the way I’m gonna look.

“Regardless, I mean, teeth can be fixed. Anything can be done, it’s all good. I need some new teeth anyway!”

Tony once banned his nephew from boxing believing he was “too pretty” to fight.

But now Essex and his daughter Demi make their Misfits debut on the same card – having completed months of training together side by side.

Sims has even had his daughter and nephew sparring some of the professional boxers in his stable to prepare them for their fights.

He said: “It is a difficult sport because when you’re sparring as well, you’re obviously trying to punish the sparring partner and he’s trying to punish you.

“So all sorts of things happen to you, you end up hurting your hands, your shoulders, your arms, your ribs, everything hurts.

“It’s good like, Joey had to move around with George Liddard who’s a pro, and you kind of find out what he’s really like.

“Demi’s moved around with Maisey-Rose and then you kind of find out what they’re all about.”

Essex has turned down any TV or appearance opportunities to focus on boxing – training six days a week up to twice a day.

He said: “I guess it’s a change of career, which is so weird to say. The plan at the minute is to get bigger and better fights.

“This is just for me, I’m just looking at this like the start, like the start of something big. I’m taking one step at a time.

“Get this fight out the way, relax and I’ll be straight back here, straight back in the gym. I ain’t gonna have too much time off.

“I wanna get straight back into it. I’m here to take over.”
