Jones has fought just once in UFC since February 2020.
And he was ready to light up New York with a Heavyweight Championship battle against fellow MMA great Miocic.
However, Jones has now picked up a serious pectoral injury.
He needs surgery to reattach the muscle to the bone.
And Jones will be sidelined for eight months, leaving his scrap with Miocic in the mire.
UFC boss Dana White confirmed: “Jon Jones was training last night and got injured.
“He was wrestling and tore the tendon that connects your pec to the bone, off the bone.
“Eight months, going to need surgery. He’s out.”

UFC 295 will now be headlined by Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka’s light heavyweight clash.
Meanwhile, British star Tom Aspinall has seen his heavyweight bout against Sergei Pavlovich moved up to co-main event.
The winner will be crowned the new interim heavyweight king, setting up a potential bout against Jones when he returns next year.
Indeed, Aspinall previously revealed his desire to scrap Jones for the title.
He said: “I’d be slightly disappointed [if he left]. But what matters to me is being heavyweight champ.
“I’m not bothered if it’s against Jon Jones, it would be nice and say I fought him. But I wouldn’t be too bothered, he can do what he wants.”
