JORDAN HENDERSON was loudly booed by England fans in a first Wembley display since taking the money in Saudi Arabia.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate made the Al-Ettifaq midfielder his captain for the 1-0 friendly win over Australia.

But ex-Liverpool star Henderson, who made the controversial summer move to the Saudi Pro League in a £700,000-a-week deal, received the wrath of England supporters.

Henderson was picked by Southgate for away fixtures against Ukraine and Scotland last month.

But the 33-year-old, who hailed Saudi’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup last week, was jeered throughout the night in his first match on English soil.

Henderson was booed when his name was read out by Wembley’s PA announcer pre-match, after his first touch and again during his 61st minute substitution as he gave the armband to Kieran Trippier.

After swapping Anfield for Al-Ettifaq in July, the midfielder received heavy criticism from LGBTQ+ groups.

And England Lioness Jill Scott took aim at him for the move last month.

She said: “I am a Jordan Henderson fan, but now I know I wouldn’t be welcome if I wanted to watch him play football.”

Ollie Watkins grabbed England’s winner when the Aston Villa striker bundled in Jack Grealish’s 57th minute cross-cum-shot.

Despite the win it was a fairly uninspiring performance from Southgate’s side.

The England boss gave Jarrod Bowen, James Maddison, Levi Colwill and Sam Johnstone a start ahead of the match.
