JOSE MOURINHO has claimed it was a “miracle” he won a trophy with Manchester United.

The Portuguese manager named the Red Devils as one of three underdog clubs he has won silverware with during his career.

Alongside Roma and Porto, Mourinho claimed he upset the odds by finding success with United.

Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, winning three trophies before he was sacked in December 2018.

He also won the Champions League with Porto in 2004 and the Europa Conference League with Roma last year.

Listing his underdog stories, Mourinho told Sky Italy, via La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I am always accused of being less than humble, I have to agree with those who say so.

“I have achieved many feats, but winning the Champions League with Porto is a super feat with nine Portuguese players having played in the Champions League final, seven guys a year earlier who had not had any matches in the Champions League.

“But there are other clubs because if I have been lucky enough to work with teams with large budgets, I have had the difficulty of working in teams where winning is a miracle.

“I won with Manchester United, I won a cup and a half with Roma, I wasn’t able to win two cups in Rome but I won one and a half and I have another six months here.

“The one with Porto is a feat that opened the doors of the world to me.”

After replacing Louis van Gaal in 2016, Mourinho lifted the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League in his first season with United.

The Europa League triumph had been the club’s most recent piece of silverware until their League Cup win earlier this year.

He later finished second in 2017/18, United’s joint-highest league finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

However, Mourinho failed to complete a third season in the dugout and was dismissed before Christmas in 2018 after a downturn in results.
