Seeking to bring padel opportunities to Merseyside, Liverpool City Council (LCC) asked interested parties for proposals in 2023.

Two bidders submitted proposals to LCC last September.

Councillors have since given preliminary agreements to Padel FC, a group headed up by Marc Klopp.

Padel FC want to build six indoor and three outdoor courts across 1.5 acres of land.

They also aim to add further toilet facilities as well as a food truck, with the redevelopments set to cost £500,000.

Currently occupying the land is a car park, as well as some out of use tennis courts.

Klopp is one of four directors of Padel FC, alongside Michael Smith, Carl Spellman and former Premier League footballer Bradley Orr.

The ex-defender, 42, played for Queens Park Rangers, Blackburn and Bristol City.

Padel FC will be required to pay LCC £70,000 in rent for their first 12 months on site.

The price would then double in the years to follow.

Marc Klopp’s father Jurgen is also an enthusiastic padel player.

Launching a new Wilson padel range in January, the 57-year-old said: “Padel is, besides football, the best game I’ve ever played.

“I’ve only known it in the last five years or so, but since then, I’m really addicted to it.

“You make big steps in a short period of time. It’s really fun to play.”
