The quake struck just hours after the Oscars ceremony wrapped up.
USGS officials revealed the quake happened in North Hollywood, near Universal City.
But, tremors were felt all across Los Angeles.
Some even felt shaking in Pasadena and Long Beach, which is located around 24 miles south of Los Angeles.
Viewers tuning into livestreams of the Vanity Fair party noticed shaking in the stream.
“That was either an earthquake or the Vanity Fair party is going off,” one viewer posted on social media.
“Need footage of the Vanity Fair party during that earthquake,” another commented online.
“The live earthquake during the Vanity Fair party,” a third viewer said.
Adrien Brody, who won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, and Zoe Saldana were among some of the famous names to attend the glitzy Vanity Fair shindig.
Stars such as Heidi Klum, Cara Delevingne, and Olivia Rodrigo were in attendance at the bash.
There have been no injuries or any reported damage.
And fire chiefs in Los Angeles are not activating their earthquake response protocol.
News of the earthquake prompted some social media users to joke that Earth wasn’t thrilled about the winners.
“Los Angeles earthquake right after the Oscars, so poetic,” one X user said.
“Anora caused the earthquake,” another said.
“Earthquake in Hollywood on Oscars night because God was actually rooting for Wicked,” a third penned.
What causes earthquakes?
Here’s everything you need to know…
An earthquake is a shockwave caused by rocks being under extreme forces
They are typically triggered by the movement of Earth’s crust
Earth’s tectonic plates, the massive shelves of crust that carry the continents and seafloor, meet at points called fault lines
When these plates rub over or against one another, huge amounts of pressure are generated
This creates shockwaves that send violent vibrations through Earth
The shock can split the planet’s crust and create devestating tsunamis
Anora, the rom-com directed by Sean Baker, won big at the Dolby Theatre last night.
Breakout star Mikey Madison defeated stars like Demi Moore to pick up the Best Actress gong.
Locals described the earthquake as “scary.”
“I heard some noise and after the ground was shaking very hard,” one local told the CBS affiliate KCAL-TV.
“I heard some noise, and after the ground was shaking very hard. … I was very, like, chill, but we were surprised.
“We kept drinking and enjoying our night.”
BBC journalist Emma Vardy said her earrings wobbled when the earthquake hit.
She revealed she was on the 15th floor of the media center in Hollywood.
“Feeling a building of that size move around like jelly is quite an experience,” she told the outlet.
The earthquake comes just months after Los Angeles was ravaged by several wildfires.
At least 29 people were killed in the wildfires and the cost following the blazes stands at more than $250 billion.
