LUKE LITTLER fired a cheeky dig towards darts rival Stephen Bunting after winning the World Darts Championship.

Littler, 17, beat Michael van Gerwen 7-3 on Friday to become the youngest-ever darts world champion as he broke down in tears on stage.

GettyHe confessed the win made him happy as Bunting was going to parade the trophy at Anfield when Liverpool play Man Utd[/caption]

The victory made up for the pain of defeat he suffered to Luke Humphries last year, and also saw him pocket the £500,000 prize money to move him up to second in the world rankings.

But before he beat Mighty Mike, Littler had dispatched Bunting 6-1 in the semi-finals.

Bunting, 39, had said he was planning to take the Sid Waddell Trophy to Anfield for Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday if he won the tournament.

And Litter – a die-hard Man Utd fan – admitted he was even happier to beat the Bullet considering that factor, before saying he would parade the trophy around Old Trafford if the club allowed it.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “Will I take the trophy around Old Trafford? If they allow me to then I’m sure I will go to Old Trafford yeah.

“I’m glad I beat Stephen yesterday because I’m pretty sure he was taking it to Anfield on the weekend.”

Littler’s phone went into meltdown following his win as congratulatory messages poured in from the likes of David Beckham.

He said: “Just went back. Turned my phone off airplane mode.

“I think I lost 20 per cent of my battery by the time the notification cames through. I replied to so many people.

“Then it was a case of going to asleep and getting prepared for today…

“Obviously, David Beckham messaged. He said: ‘Great, well done.’”

Littler added: “Yeah, it’s been crazy. I only had four hours sleep.”

Red Devils royalty were actually in the house at Ally Pally as Wayne Rooney‘s wife Coleen and their sons cheered on.

Littler even signed shirts for Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, four, as the brothers were all decked out in replica purple-and-yellow Nuke jerseys.

Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire were also quick to congratulate the United supporter on social media.
