A CRASH has seen drivers stuck in hour long queues on a major motorway.
The M11 was shut down at around 6.10am after a collision on the southbound lane near Saffron Walden.
Recovery workers closed off one lane on the busy motorway southbound between J9 and 8.
National Highways warned of bumper to bumper traffic building up sparking delays of around 60 minutes.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “Lane 2 (of 2) is closed on the M11 southbound between J9 and J8 (Stansted Airport) due to a collision. Traffic officers and recovery are in attendance.
“There are long delays of at least 60 minutes above usual journey times on the approach.”
Traffic monitoring company Inrix added: “Long delays and one lane closed due to recovery work and accident on M11 Southbound after J9 (Saffron Walden). Congestion to J10 (Duxford).”
All lanes have now re-opened following the smash, however delays are still to be expected.
In an update National Highways confirmed: “All lanes have reopened on the M11 southbound between J9 and J8 following a collision.
“There are long delays of at least 60 minutes above usual journey times on the approach.”
This comes as we also reported disruption on a vital motorway bridge this morning.
The M48 Severn Bridge, which connects England to Wales and is used by 80,000 Brits every day, has closed, forcing drivers onto a diversion route.
It was shut in both directions due to strong winds and severe flooding.
Currently, the motorway is shut between Junction 1 for Aust, south Gloucestershire, and Junction 2 for Chepstow, south Wales.
Motorists are being redirected onto the second Severn crossing, known as the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, although this has led to congestion building up.
And for Brits making any early Easter weekend trips today, the Met Office has warned of possible travel chaos.
The weather agency has issued two yellow weather warnings across large parts of the UK.
It comes ahead of an estimated 6.2million drivers hitting the road this weekend for Easter journeys.
The first yellow alert for rain covers Wales and the south west of England.
It started from Lands End and reaches all the way up to Liverpool. while encompassing the whole of Wales and stretching out to Bristol.
The notice has been in place from midday on Tuesday and ends at midday on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the other yellow alert covers Northern Ireland, from Coleraine down to Newry.
It came into effect today at 2am and is in place until 9pm.
