TWO major motorways have been forced to shut in the same area after a horror smash and “overrunning roadworks”.
Thousands of commuters travelling on the M20 and M25 face lengthy delays following the closures across Kent this morning.

The M25 is closed clockwise between Junction 3, for the M20, and Junction 4, for Bromley, due to a collision.
Emergency crews, including Kent Police, were scrambled to the crash at around 5.40am.
Meanwhile, scheduled roadworks on the M20 were not completed by the expected 6am deadline.
It means the busy route remains closed eastbound between Junction 7, for Maidstone, and Junction 8, for Hollingbourne.
Posting updates this morning, National Highways confirmed diversions were in place for both closures.
On its website, it said: “The M25 in Kent is closed clockwise between J3 (M20, Swanley) and J4 (Orpington) due to a collision.
“Emergency Services are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.
“The overnight roadworks on the M20 eastbound between J7 and J8 will not be completed by it’s scheduled finish time of 06:00.
“The road is closed between J7 and J8.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
Diversions in place
Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol
M20:
Exit the M20 at Junction 7 onto the A249 Maidstone towards Bearsted Road, and turn Southeast towards New Cut Road.
At this Junction it will turn South into New Cut Road towards the A20 Turn East onto the A20.
Travel along the A20 to re-join the M20 at Junction 8
M25
Exit the M25 clockwise at the J3 Swanley Interchange.
At the roundabout, take 5th exit onto A20 towards London.
Continue until the A224 roundabout (Crittal’s Corner)
At Crittal’s Corner roundabout, take 1st exit onto A224 towards Orpington.
At A224 / M25 Link Hewitts Roundabout take 1st exit onto M25 link and at next roundabout M25 Junction 4 take 2nd exit to rejoin M25 clockwise towards Gatwick.
