The westbound carriageway of the M58 is currently closed between Junction 4 at Skelmersdale and Junction 3 at Bickerstaffe following the incident at 12.01 this afternoon, National Highways said.
The agency added the eastbound carriageway was also temporarily shut to allow an air ambulance to attend the scene.
The westbound carriageway will remain closed while the police carry out further enquiries.
It is not yet known when it will reopen, although Lancashire Police say they do not expect it to be closed for long.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Shortly before 12pm today, we received a report that a man had fallen from the motorway bridge.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance, and the motorway may be closed for a while.
“We know it can be really frustrating when your journey is delayed, but we ask that you please avoid the area and find an alternative route to allow the emergency services privacy to work.
“We will bring you a further update when we are able to.”
National Highways also announced the M60 was shut following a horror crash.
“The link road between the M60 clockwise at J4 to the M56 westbound is currently closed due to a collision,” a spokesperson for the agency said.
“We are at scene with the emergency services.
“For the M56 please continue clockwise to J5, exiting onto A5103 southbound to join the M56 at J3.”
Elsewhere, South Wales Police are at the scene of a “serious collision” on the M4 at Junction 36 Sarn Eastbound.
The force said: “The road is not closed, but there are significant delays. Please use an alternative route and avoid the area at this time. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.”
One lane is also closed on the M25 between Junction 10 at Guildford and Junction 11 at Woking due to a broken down vehicle and oil spillage.
Delays are stretching back as far as Junction 9 at Leatherhead.
