M6 closed after lorry hits barriers and overturns spilling diesel all over carriageway as traffic brought to halt

A MAJOR motorway is closed after a lorry crashed into a central reservation and toppled on its side – spilling diesel on the road.

A stretch of the M6 through North Staffordshire will likely be closed for most of this morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene last night after a lorry overturned.

Junctions 14 to 15 are closed for resurfacing and repairs in the aftermath.

National Highways said the recovery of the lorry is ongoing and they are also dealing with the fuel spill.

Staffordshire Police‘s road crime team said no one was hurt.

National Highways had confirmed the northbound closure at around 10.30pm last night.

The road crime team said in a post on X: “M6 J14 to J15 CLOSED – Single vehicle RTC.

“HGV has collided with nearside and central barriers resulting in the HGV turning over spilling diesel all over the carriageway.

“Luckily no injuries reported.

“Road likely to be closed most of the morning for resurfacing and repairs.”
