The International Olympic Committee’s executive approved the sport on Friday.

IOC president Thomas Bach confirmed that the LA organisers’ proposal to feature T20 cricket in the Games had been accepted.
It came following a meeting of the executive board in Mumbai.
Cricket has not been included in the Olympic Games since 1900 when Great Britain and France were the only two countries that competed – with GB winning gold.
T20 cricket is set to be one of five new sports at the Olympics.
The others are baseball/softball, flag football, squash and lacrosse.
However, boxing looks set to be omitted from the 2028 event.
Last year, the IOC barred the International Boxing Association from running the tournament and established a new qualification system for athletes.
And Bach has now confirmed that the decision to withdraw recognition of the IBA has put boxing’s inclusion in the LA Games “on hold”.

Boxing has been included in each of the last 25 Olympic Games.
Its inclusion stretches back to 1912 – when the Stockholm Games excluded it as Swedish law banned the sport at the time.
The potential omission from the 2028 Olympics could have a damaging impact on the future of amateur boxing, with Muhammad Ali and Anthony Joshua just two future stars whose careers were launched at the Games.
