Both lanes of traffic were closed, with drivers warned about delays
The first closure took place at around 9am this morning and lasted until approximately 10.30am.
A National Highways North West spokesperson wrote on X: “The M60 anti-clockwise is closed between J12 M602 and J10 Trafford Park for a police incident. Diversion via ‘Hollow Circle’.
They later also closed the clockwise carriageway between J10 and J11.
It led to delays in both directions, with a diversion in place from the M602 at junction three to tackle this.
Both lanes were reopened just after 10am.
Emergency services, including police and fire services, were reportedly attending the scene between junctions 12 and 10.
The incident occurred at around 7am this morning, with National Highways Traffic Officers dispatched to assist Greater Manchester Police.
Details of the incident have not been released, but it is “ongoing”.
A second incident, believed to be unrelated, occurred at around 2pm when a stretch of road between J11 and J12 was closed in both directions.
It led to queues as far back as junction nine on the clockwise carriage, with traffic backed up to the M61 on the other side.
At around 3pm, a man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The highway subsequently reopened at 3:45pm, with “no residual delays in the area”.

“A man has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.”
National Highways added that motorists should allow for extra journey time.
They said: “You may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
Drivers are advised to use the A576 and A5081 as an alternative route.
Those travelling anti-clockwise are being diverted via the hollow circle symbol on road signs.

Exit the M602 at the next junction and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto the A576 southbound
Remain on the A576 for approximately 2 miles to the Parkway Circle with the A5081 at Trafford Park
Take the 3rd exit onto the A5081 towards Mossfield/The Trafford Centre
Remain on the A5081 to reach Lostock Circle and rejoin the M60 at J9

Take the 1st exit onto the M602 westbound and continue to the next junction to re-join the M60.
