Major motorway shut down after crash as drivers warned of five mile queues and long delays

A MAJOR UK motorway has been blocked following a horror crash.

The M11 northbound is partially shut off near Saffron Walden in Essex this afternoon – resulting in five miles of traffic queues.

“M11 Northbound partially blocked, queueing traffic for four miles due to accident before J9,” traffic monitoring site Inrix reported.

“Congestion to both sides, with three miles opposite back past J9.”

National Highways added: “Lane one is CLOSED on the #M11 northbound between J8a #BirchangerGreen and J9 near #GreatChesterford due to a collision.

“Vehicle recovery is en-route to scene.

“There are currently delays of 30 mins and approx. Five miles of congestion.”

The Sun Online have reached out to Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance service for comment.
