FLIGHTS at a major UK airport were halted after a collision between two planes.

Passengers hoping to fly from Manchester Airport are facing cancellations and delays today after the two planes collided this morning.

Flights were temporarily stopped as a precaution after two EasyJet aircraft clipped wings on a runway at the site.

Both of the EasyJet flights were departing from terminal one at around 6:30am when they “came into contact.”

One of the two flights was bound for Gibraltar, and the other was set for Paris.

Safety checks had to take place before flights could be started again with staff scrambling to get the schedule moving.

One of the two planes appeared to have visible damage following the collision.

Flights have been since been started back up but passengers are still facing delays and cancellations.

The two planes that collided will reportedly not be flying today with passengers offered alternative arrangements.

A spokesperson for EasyJet said: “EasyJet can confirm that two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing to the runway at Manchester Airport.

“An immediate investigation has been launched to understand what happened.

“The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our highest priority.”
