A MAJOR motorway has been closed due to a lorry fire – with motorists warned of delays of up to 45 minutes.
The M20 has been closed westbound near Paddock Wood, Kent, as fire crews battle to put out the blaze this morning.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene between junction one and junction three on the busy route.
Drivers heading towards London have been warned they face delays of up to 45 minutes, with roughly four miles of congestion.
Posting pictures of the congestion on social media, commuter Emily Brooks said: “Praying there is nobody hurt in the crash this morning!
“Well done to @kent_police @KentHighways and @kentfirerescue for getting the incident under control quickly!”
National Highways confirmed teams were working to open at least one of the lanes.
Giving an update on X, it said: “Work to extinguish the fire continues at scene.
“The M20 westbound remains closed between J3 (M26) and J1 (M25).
“We’re working to reopen a lane. Traffic being diverted via M26 and M25.
“Delays in excess of 45 minutes, approx. 4 miles of congestion.“
