A MAN who shot dead a 16-year-old boy near a Tube station has been charged with murder.

Omar Prempeh, 32, has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Lathaniel Burrell.

Lathaniel was shot dead in Stockwell, south London, on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers quickly cordoned off Paradise Road after the shooting as forensics officers gathered evidence from the murder scene.

A heavy police presence continued around the area late into the night.

Forensics also scoured the escalators at Stockwell Station where they used torches to inspect handrails and steps.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee previously said: “This is a horrendous crime, which has shocked the local community and beyond.”

In a recent statement the Met added: “His family continue to be supported by specialist officers.”

The statement continued: “If you have any information which may help the investigation, please call 101 with the reference 4116/04MAR.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 if you want to remain anonymous.

“Prempeh will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 March.”
