Man arrested over murder of dad who was ‘ran over and hacked to death with machete’

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a dad who was allegedly run over and killed with a machete.

Michael Beaton, 35, was found seriously injured after allegedly being hit with a car and stabbed on Drumfrochar Road, Greenock, last Sunday.

Michael, also known as Mick, was raced to hospital in Glasgow but died shortly after admission.

Cops probing the killing today arrested a 25-year-old in relation to the alleged incident.

The area outside St Patrick’s Primary School was sealed off for two days after the alleged murder.

Council chiefs were forced to close the school after the murder probe was launched.

Police vehicles sealed off the scene and officers stood guard on the street.

Forensics techs were pictured photographing the scene of the alleged murder with evidence markers scattered throughout the street.

Police Scotland confirmed the arrest but said inquiries remain ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Michael Beaton in Greenock.

“The 35-year-old was found with serious injuries on Drumfrochar Road around 7.20pm on Sunday, 26 November, 2023. He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died a few hours later.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
