A man was remanded in custody and appeared in court today charged with Kailem’s murder.

Emergency services attended the scene on Gilmerton Drive in Newton Heath on the north-east of Manchester city centre, around 7.25pm on Saturday, August 30.

A 44-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, but has since been released on bail.

Enquiries into “the deeply loved son, brother, father, boyfriend, nephew, cousin, and friend” Kailem’s death are still ongoing.

The charge follows a tribute made by his family, who said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kailem Reece Gibson, who left us on 29 August 2025, at the young age of 28.”

They added: “He touched the lives of everyone he met with his warm smile, kind spirit, and heart of gold.

“Always willing to lend a hand, Kailem had a gift for making others feel cared for and never hesitated to help anyone in need.

“He will be remembered not only for the love he gave so freely but also for the way he made life brighter for all those around him.

“His family and friends will forever cherish the moments shared, the laughter created, and the love he left behind.

“Though his time here was far too short, Kailem’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

“Forever 28, forever loved, never forgotten.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 3007 of 29/08/25.

Chief Inspector Peter Crowe from GMP’s City of Manchester district also said following Kailem’s death: “We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones, and they remain in our thoughts.

“We understand this tragic incident will have shook our communities and we want to reassure people that we will not tolerate violence and use of weapons on our streets.

“We will not stop until we find offenders and bring them to justice.”
