Man & dog killed by car that ‘flipped’ onto them after horror crash with taxi as woman in her 40s arrested

A MAN and his dog have been killed by a car that “flipped” on top of them after crashing into a taxi.

The black car was driving towards a junction when it hit a taxi on the other side of the carriageway, before striking down the man in his 60s.

Emergency services raced to the scene at around 5pm yesterday, but were sadly unable to save the man or his dog.

Reports from the scene stated that the second vehicle was a taxi – and said the black car had “flipped over”.

Fortunately, no one else was seriously injured.

A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, said Greater Manchester Police.

She has now been released on bail.

The force has issued an urgent appeal for anyone with information or who saw the crash to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Shortly before 5pm on Sunday 9 March 2025, we were called to reports that a pedestrian and a dog had been struck by a vehicle at the junction Hollyhedge Road and Greenwood Drive, in Wythenshawe.

“Emergency services were in attendance, but despite their best efforts, the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, and a dog sadly died at the scene.

“A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on bail.

“We are now appealing for witnesses to help us with our enquiries.

“The vehicle, a black car, was travelling south on Greenwood Drive towards the junction of Hollyhedge Road.

“As the vehicle entered the junction it collided with another vehicle on the opposing carriageway, before hitting a pedestrian and sadly causing fatal injuries at the scene to him and his dog.

“There were no other serious injuries to report.”

Anyone with information, dashcam footage or ring doorbell footage has been urged to contact police on 101 quoting log 2270 of 09/03/2025.
