Ahmed Alid, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today charged with murder and attempted murder.

It is alleged the Moroccan national stabbed his housemate in the chest, legs and mouth before venturing on to the street.

He is then accused of stabbing Terrence to death before he was arrested in blood-stained clothing with a large knife.

Alid was remanded into custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

He was held following a joint investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and Cleveland Police

The horror is not being treated as a terrorist incident.

Police raced to the scene at around 6am on Sunday after the first man was knifed inside the hostel.

He was also knifed and remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Terrence was then stabbed to death on the street with a “large” knife found on the ground close to where he collapsed.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “This evening’s charges follow a thorough investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and Cleveland Police.

“We are satisfied that this was an isolated incident and are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter.

“We are grateful for the support and understanding of the local community during this investigation, which has caused understandable concern among local people.

“We will continue to work closely with Cleveland Police colleagues to reassure those affected and keep them informed.”
