When asked why Ten Hag was willing to make such an extreme change, he simply said: “I wanted more football.”
Casemiro suffered a day to forget which was his latest in a season he has increasingly struggled in.
The midfielder made a critical mistake in the build-up to Mathias Jensen’s 26th-minute opener, which should’ve been saved by Andre Onana.
That, coupled, with his lack of ferocity, prompted Ten Hag to replace the club’s September Player of the Month with Christian Eriksen at halftime.
United fans speculated that this could be the beginning of the end for Casemiro in a United shirt.

And a fourth wrote: “Expect to see a statement from Casemiro soon.”
The statement part is of course referring to Jadon Sancho‘s Instagram outburst when he said he had been made a scapegoat after being dropped from the squad against Arsenal.
United this season in general have been no stranger to releasing statements after they did so over the future of Mason Greenwood and Antony.
It has led fans of United to give themselves the nickname of “statement FC” after they had more statements than wins at one point this season.
