MANCHESTER UNITED could get stuck with Rasmus Hojlund next season despite him flying to Italy to complete a move to Napoli.

Hojlund jetted off to Naples on Saturday to undergo his medical with the reigning Serie A champions.

An initial loan deal for the United striker was agreed between the clubs.

And he is now ready to put the finishing touches to the move.

A transfer fee of around £38million is in place for the Denmark international.

That represents a steep loss on the £64m United paid Atalanta for him in 2023.

But the switch will only become permanent if Napoli qualify for the Champions League this season.

Hojlund has insisted all summer he wanted to stay at Old Trafford.

That is despite the £74m arrival of Slovenian forward Benjamin Sesko, on top of the deals for Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

And Hojlund, 22, appears to have had a change of heart after not featuring in the early matches this term.

That is despite Sesko, 22, being eased in by United chief Ruben Amorim.

For the most part, Amorim has opted to use  £62.5m summer signing Cunha up top in the league.

Hojlund has failed to live up to expectations ever since his arrival at Man Utd.

The centre-forward has only amassed a mere 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances the last two years.

The ex-Atalanta star also managed only 10 goals and four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions last season.
