MANCHESTER UNITED could be set for their worst ever Premier League season.

United have been in transition since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, which was when they won their last Prem title.

Sheffield United are facing the prospect of breaking Derby’s dismal points tally record

And the Red Devils have been trying to find their feet in this post-Fergie era for the last 10 years but have proven to be quite inconsistent.

The Manchester giants finished seventh in their first season after Sir Alex’s departure, which is their worst ever Prem tally to date.

But they also managed to show signs of their former glory under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who led them to second place in 2018 and 2021 respectively.

Even current manager Erik ten Hag hinted he can turn things around when he led them to third place on his debut season despite a turbulent campaign and Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious exit.

However, United have suffered their worst ever start in the Premier League that has seen them drop to 10th place after losing four of their opening eight matches.

According to Grosvenor Casinos, things can go really bad if their run of bad form continues based on aggregate data from the current and past three seasons.

Because that will see Ten Hag’s men finishing 10th, which will mark their worst finish in a season since the 1989-1990 campaign – before the Prem’s inception in 1992 – which saw them dropping to 13th.

Sheffield United are also facing the prospect of breaking Derby County’s record for lowest points tally in the English top flight.

The Blades could finish last because of their current point-per-match tally of 0.13 compared to Derby’s 0.29 average from the 2007-2008 season.

The Rams only managed a mere 11 points 15 years ago and Paul Heckingbottom’s men face the prospect of registering about six less.

But it’s all smiles for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou who could finally end his team’s near 16-year trophyless run in style by winning their first league title since 1961.

Arsenal are looking at another second-placed finish with the same points as their north London rivals.

Current Treble winners Manchester City’s reign of dominance could come to an abrupt end by finishing in third place.

Liverpool are predicted to complete the top four and returning to the Champions League next season.

Aston Villa and Brighton are looking at Europa League qualification, while the world’s richest club Newcastle are facing the prospect of Europa Conference League football after a shaky start.

Crystal Palace complete the top 10 by finishing with about four points ahead of United.

Chelsea are looking at another poor finish that would see them in 11th place despite owner Todd Boehly’s staggering £1billion investment in transfers alone since taking over last summer.

Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Brentford are predicted to be below the Blues.

Everton and Luton, on the other hand, just avoid relegation by making it to 16th and 17th place respectively.

However, Burnley and winless Bournemouth are tipped to follow Sheffield United to the Championship.
