The 23-cap England winger has been told he has no Old Trafford future under boss Ruben Amorim and was one of four “Bomb Squad” stars left behind when United flew to Chicago last week.

And the £73million flop, who has a year left on his £300k-a-week contract, will almost certainly leave before the transfer window shuts.

Italian giants Juventus appeared the most likely destination in recent weeks, while Serie A champions Napoli have also stepped up their interest.

But Dortmund coach Niko Kovac is now pressing the club hierarchy to make a potential swoop for just £17MILLION.

The 25-year-old star made his name with them and had a second Bundesliga spell after his fall-out with then-United boss Erik ten Hag in 2023-24.

Sancho left Manchester City’s youth set-up to join Dortmund in 2017,  becoming a firm favourite of the club’s Yellow Wall of fans.

In January 2024, having accused Ten Hag of treating him like a “scapegoat”, he returned for a six-month loan spell, starting their Wembley Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

Last season, after returning to the United fold and missing a penalty in the Community Shield shootout defeat by City, he joined Chelsea on loan with an “obligation” to be bought for £25m.

But, despite scoring in the Conference League final win over Real Betis, Chelsea opted not to complete the deal and paid a £5m penalty to terminate the agreement.

That left Sancho out in the cold, with Amorim banning him and the other ostracised players Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia from fraternising with the first-team squad.

And while there has been no official contact from Dortmund so far, the German side are poised to make an approach, potentially giving both Sancho and United a way out.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are keen to add a striker to their squad and have Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins as their top targets.
