‘The Green Machine’ faces a qualifier in his first-round match at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes on Friday night.

The tournament is sponsored by darts manufacturers Winmau, and so is MVG, who will be celebrating five-years with the brand.

To commemorate the occasion, Van Gerwen will be trading his iconic green strip, worn for the past 15 years, for a special black and gold edition.

The Dutchman revealed: “No green this time? Not for this tournament.

“To mark the five-year anniversary, I’ll be wearing this black and gold shirt. Perfect.”

Van Gerwen will also be playing with special edition darts, which are heavier than his usual set.

He added: “I told the technical guy: you know what I like to play with and what I’m comfortable with, so give me good darts. I gave him free rein.

“The biggest difference is that they are 0.7 grams heavier and the grip has been adjusted. It has to feel good and they feel good from the first moment.”

World No3 Van Gerwen will be looking to avenge his defeat in last year’s World Masters final to Stephen Bunting

The 35-year-old has dominated the tournament by winning it five years in a row from 2015 to 2019.

He also holds the record for the highest one-match average in the tournament, recording 112.49 in the 2015 final against Raymond Van Barneveld.

Van Gerwen now aims to secure his first Premier Event title since winning the 2023 World Series Finals.

The Dutchman will also swap his iconic green shirt for an orange one ahead of the World Cup of Darts, where all throwers wear tops representing their country.
