The Melbourne DJ sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital to undergo emergency surgery before she sadly died surrounded by her family two days later.
Courtney’s older sister Kiana and mum Diane flew out to the Indonesian island to be by her side in the final moments.
In an Instagram post, Kiana said her sister had been placed on life support and underwent multiple operations, but tragically could not be saved from her grave injuries.
“It is with such a heavy heart that we share the news of Courtney’s passing,” Kiana said.
“Mum and I arrived in Bali Saturday and were with her by her side right until the end,” she added.
Courtney regarded Bali as her “second home” after living on the island for several years before returning to Melbourne to move back in with her parents.
Friday’s tragedy struck less than two years after she fell down a flight of stairs in Bali in 2023, which caused a bleed on the brain.
Courtney was a much-loved DJ around Melbourne and played at some of the city’s nightlife hot spots including Metropol, Cushion, Secret Garden, Hotel Barkley and Motel Eve, before launching an international career.
Her shattered family have spoken out to pay tribute to a free and adventurous spirit.
“She was beautiful, big-hearted, and happy-go-lucky,” her mum Diane Mayne told Nine News.
“She lived life to the fullest,” the devastated mum added.
Courtney’s sister Kiani said that her death has been ruled as an accident.
She told the Herald Sun: “It’s just the grief and mourning of a life that’s been lost way too early.”
“The most beautiful thing we have been able to do for the last couple of days is sit and reminisce about the incredible life that she lived and how full her life was.
“She would drive hours and hours just to DJ for one hour.
“She would fly across the country to do the job she loved so passionately and to her it wasn’t a job, it was a life.
“Being behind those decks was her sense of freedom and we got to see her light up rooms.”
Just five days before she died, Courtney posted a clip of herself wearing dancing to 1990s hit Barbie Girl in a bright pink bikini.
There has been an outpouring of grief and tributes from friends and entertainment figures after the news of Courtney’s death broke.
“Absolutely devastated. You were such an angel and will certainly be remembered for your spark and kindness!” one person wrote.
Talent agency That Sound said: “Today, we mourn the loss of an incredible soul who brought joy, energy, and passion to everywhere she graced.
“Courtney Mills was not just a brilliant DJ – she was the heartbeat of every party, a vibrant spirit who connected us all.
“We are grateful for the moments we shared and the memories we created together.
“Rest in peace, your light will never fade.”
Fellow DJ Brandon Mangion described her as a ray of sunshine who lit up every room but said it was her compassion that set her apart from everyone else.
“The last message I got from Courtney was ‘I’m here for you,’” he told Nine News.
“Reading that yesterday broke my heart,” he added.
Courtney will be cremated in Bali on Wednesday.
Her sister Kiani wrote online: “This place [Bali] was her second home, so we wish to honour her and leave a part of her here.”
“We will then return home with her ashes, to celebrate her life, Courtney style, in Melbourne.”
Courtney had 151,000 followers on Instagram and 25,000 followers on Soundcloud.
