The stricken aircraft landed at Antalya airport in Turkey before flames started to swirl from ignited kerosene that had leaked onto the runway.
All 95 passengers and crew were left frantically rushing to the exit points as emergency evacuation slides were ordered amid fears the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft would explode.
One report said the wing had clipped the runway as the Russian Azimuth Airlines aircraft battled against high winds overnight.
A heroic passenger is said to have broken down a door after crew struggled to wrench it open as smoke started to fill the plane.
Miraculously all 95 people on board escaped unharmed.
One of the survivors, a TikTok influencer named Evgeniya Lavrinenko said: “There was panic in the cabin, people started jumping up, trying to get their bags, putting them in the aisle.
“And then a sharp flash in all the windows showed that the fire had burst into flames.”
“There was smoke coming from behind and then someone shouted that there were evacuation slides at the back of the plane – run back.
“We ran back, and there was even more smoke, we started to suffocate.
“I shouted to my child to cover her face with a cloth so she could breathe and we came down on this slide.
“My daughter was first, I followed her, screaming all around us. It was very scary.”
“My daughter was crying, everyone was crying, but luckily everyone survived.”
The airliner had taken off from Sochi, Russia hours earlier, Turkey‘s transportation ministry said in a statement.
Two loud bangs were heard as the plane with 89 passengers and six crew on board landed.
The pilot made an emergency call at 9:34pm local time (6:34pm GMT), as several fires started to break out.
The airline said the plane had suffered a “rough landing” due to the windy conditions.
Those on board rushed away from the burning wreckage as they feared it could explode at any moment.
They then had to wait for hours to collect their luggage with some passengers saying they had lost their belongings, including passports, in the escape.
Images show fire crews working to put out the flames that had engulfed the lower half of the plane and left it with lack burn marks.
The plane is believed to be so severely damaged that it is unable to be fixed, according to Telegram channel VChK-OGPU.
Arrivals at the airport were also temporarily suspended as officials removed the seven-year-old blazing plane.
Russia’s Federal Aviation Authority, Rosaviatsiya, say they are now investigating the cause of the fire.
