A MUM has appeared in court accused of cruelty towards her baby son before he was allegedly murdered by her teen partner.
Baby Elijah Shemwell was found in cardiac arrest at a home in Belper, Derbyshire, on January 22 last year.

Sadly, the four-month-old couldn’t be saved and died three days later in hospital.
His mum India Shemwell, 22, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court charged with two counts of cruelty towards Elijah.
She is also accused of assault, ill-treatment, neglect or abandonment of a child or young person causing unnecessary suffering or injury.
The mum spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address during the hearing.
Shemwell will next appear at Derby Crown Court on December 8 alongside her partner Carl Alesbrook, who is charged with murder.
Alesbrook, 18, is also charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and inflicting GBH with intent.
The alleged offences took place between November 18 2021 and January 2 2022, when he was aged 16.
Shemwell’s charges allegedly took place between December 31, 2021, and January 2, 2022.
She was bailed on the condition has no unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 16, does not enter Belper and does not contact Alesbrook.
