Her mum Jaskirat Kaur today appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court charged with murder.

The 33-year-old, who also goes under the name Jasmine Kang, spoke only to confirm identity during the brief hearing.

No pleas were entered and she was remanded into custody to next appear at the same court on April 22.

The horror unfolded after police were called to the home after a welfare officer was unable to get an answer.

Shay’s cause of death has not been confirmed, with a post mortem set to take place in due course.

Tributes have flooded in for the youngster, who was a pupil at Brickhouse Primary School.

The school said in a statement: “Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well liked by all and she will be very sadly missed by everyone.

“School is the heart of the community and we have already begun working with our children and staff to support them following this devastating news.”

Shay’s godmother Kayleigh Colclough also told of her pain in a heartbreaking tribute.

She wrote: “I’ll miss you baby girl. My heart hurts.

“I’m not sure how I feel. I feel sick, numb, angry and a failure. I’m totally heartbroken.

“I’m so, so sorry baby girl. I’ll forever miss you but remember I’m bringing you justice.”
