Thug Canning had stabbed Patrick Kubacak 32 times in the head, face, scalp, neck, back, chest, torso and buttocks in a random attack.

Moran, 45, smashed a glass tumbler into Donna’s cheek and told her: “You f***ing stupid b***h. I’m going to kill you.”

The 46-year-old suffered horror injuries after the glass penetrated her skin and lost some of her teeth.

She is also unable to smile properly after her face was partially paralysed in the attack and was left with a permanent scar.

Moran admitted causing grievous bodily harm but was spared jail and instead handed a two-year sentenced suspended for two years.

Manchester Crown Court heard the horror unfolded on July 26, 2023, after her son was charged over the knife attack.

Gavin Howie prosecuting said: ”Miss Godsell made a comment about the incident involving Michael Canning at which point the defendant became angry, stood up and started screaming at her.

”She pushed the complainant and they had “a bit of a scuffle” in which she punched the complainant to the head which left her dazed.

“The defendant then picked up hexagonal tumbler style glass with a thick rim from the floor next to the couch. At the time she had hold of the complainant’s hair and pulled her head down towards the floor.

”The defendant then smashed the glass against the complainant’s right cheek using her left hand.

“The glass shattered on the complainant’s cheek, making her feel dizzy and sick and her right cheek started pouring with blood.”

The court was told Donna underwent six hours of surgery and has since been left with PTSD.

She said in a victim impact statement how feels “trapped in an endless bubble of fear” and no longer wants to leave the house due to her injuries.

Donna added: “‘I now struggle to look in the mirror without crying. Every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of the savage attack that Diane rained upon me.

“This scar will be here for the rest of my life. I can’t hide it.

“I am so upset and hurt, as I considered Diane a friend. The scar will serve as a daily reminder of the horror I endured at her hands of a friend.”

Kubacak, a semi-professional development player at the Etihad. was walking through an alley in June 2023 when he was set upon by Canning.

He was left fighting for life after the random attack in Davyhulme, Greater Manchester.

Canning, who had a history of knife crime, was jailed for life with a minimum 20 years behind bars after he was convicted of attempted murder.

Kubacak bravely spoke out after the horror, saying: “When I looked up at him, I could see he wasn’t going to be satisfied unless I was dead.

“The force of the blows was very strong and eventually the blood started to flow from my mouth and I thought I was dying. I started praying and pretended to be dead.”
