A MUM tragically plunged to her death in front of her son while taking a selfie to celebrate a successful bungee jump.
Elizaveta “Liza” Gishchina slipped and fell 290ft moments after she was filmed jumping from the platform to mark her birthday.

The 45-year-old mother-of-two can be seen in the video laughing and saying: “Let’s go!” before screaming with joy as she plummeted towards the earth.
The footage shows her swinging from an “elastic rope” just above the ground, after which she was left uninjured.
Liza decided to re-scale the tower after her first jump – located in Pavlovsk, near Russia’s St Petersburg – in order to “take a selfie as a keepsake”.
Tragedy struck when she stood on the platform – 290ft above ground – without safety ropes.
Russian media reported Liza: “Without safety ropes … climbed back up, slipped and fell down”.
The horrific accident was witnessed by her distraught son Nikita.
The 23-year-old had attended the abandoned boiler tower with Liza – now used for daredevil rope jumps – to celebrate her birthday.
A spokesperson from 23block – the rope jumping company that operates the popular facility – released a statement.
“In tragic circumstances, experienced jumper and mother-of-two Liza has passed away”, they wrote.
“Elizaveta Gushchina, along with her son Nikita, was a member of our sports team,” they continued.
“Now the whole team is mourning her loss, this is a very big tragedy for us.”
Publicity material for the extreme sports facility said it was: “For people who cannot imagine their life without adrenaline, rope jumping, flights, active recreation, freefall”.
“They want to share these emotions with you,” it continued.
The Russian state prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into Liza’s death.
A spokesperson from the office said: “They will ascertain whether the organisers of the attraction complied with the law when providing services”.
Liza’s tragic accident comes after a 19-year-old influencer plunged to her death from a parasail.
