A MUM who admitted to hiding her two stillborn babies in sheets and bin bags has been given a suspended sentence.

Egle Zilinskaite, 31, gave birth to two stillborn babies three years apart and hid them in her Wales terrace house.

WNSEgle Kiilinskaite, 31, was given a two year suspended sentence after she pleaded guilty[/caption]

She was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years as well as 200 hours of unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The judge said that the deaths were “not [her] fault”.

At Cardiff Crown Court today, the judge said she had concealed the pregnancies due to a “fundamental mistrust of authorities, both in the UK and based on her experiences in Lithuania“, where she was born.

He added: “You made a deliberate decision not to seek assistance from the authorities because you knew the authorities could and would remove your children if necessary.”

She pleaded guilty to two counts of concealing the birth of a child and two counts of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body.

The bodies were found in November 2022 after police searched her Bridgend home.

They were investigating the end terrace as part of a separate inquiry when officers noticed a “foul smell” coming from upstairs.

One baby was found wrapped in blankets and bin bags in the attack, while the other was wrapped in bed sheets in an airing cupboard.

The first had been born in August 2019 and moved to the new property where the second was born in September 2021.

Their bodies were so badly decomposed, no cause of death could be determined.

A pathologist determined it was “not unreasonable” to conclude both babies died around the time of birth due to the presence of placenta and an umbilical cord.

Her partner-at-the-time, Zilvinas Ledovskis was found not guilty in May of this year.

During the sentencing hearing, her defence lawyer said: “Her emotions were all over the place, she didn’t know what to do.

“She had a difficult relationship with her partner who was an alcoholic and was also emotionally abusive towards her.”
