Dad Schwarzer, 52, made more than 500 Premier League appearances for Middlesbrough, Fulham, Chelsea and Leicester as well as playing in two World Cups for Australia.
Schwarzer Garcia, who was born in Harrogate but has won three caps for the Philippines after qualifying through his mum Paloma, said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Newtown.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead and I’ll do whatever I can to help the club achieve its goals for the remainder of the season.”
Schwarzer Garcia began his career in the Fulham academy and had several loan spells in non-league before playing in Malaysia and Indonesia.
A team statement on the transfer said: “Newtown AFC are excited to unveil that Philippines international goalkeeper, Julian Schwarzer Garcia, as their latest signing of the transfer window…
“Schwarzer Garcia is a product of Fulham’s academy and had loan spells in the English non-league system before playing in the Malaysian Super League and Liga 1.
“The 25-year-old, who initially joins Newtown until the end of the season, is an extremely quick and agile goalkeeper who is comfortable on the ball.”
Head coach, Callum MCKenzie, said of the move: “Julian is an exciting signing and fills a place in the squad that we’ve clearly needed to strengthen.
“Julian’s had a really interesting career and his experience and in particular his distribution will add another dimension to our game in phase 2.”
Newtown currently sit 11th out of 12 teams in the Welsh Premier League.
Schwarzer senior is the Blues’ oldest ever star, playing against Cardiff in the Premier League at the age of 41 years and 218 days old on 11 May 2014.
