DARTS could be set to become a family business for one former world championship finalist.

The player, who took on Phil Taylor in the PDC final in 2010, actually lost his PDC Tour Card last year.

And now Simon Whitlock’s son Mason is looking to take his dad’s place at the highest level.

Mason Whitlock, 21, said: “I want to win a Development Tour, win a MODUS and next year, I want to get my Tour Card. That’s my goal.”

And he believes that he can ultimately become a Premier League player alongside the likes of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.

Whitlock said: “Once I hone that consistency and start throwing those 90 / 95 plus averages every game, then I could see myself there in five years!”

On father Simon’s loss of his Tour Card, Mason commented: “I mean not much has really changed. He goes away quite often to play.

“We’ll also be going away more together, which is really interesting and really exciting.”

But while he may want to replicate his dad’s success in the sport, he does not want to copy his father’s grooming habits.

Whitlock Snr, 56, was known throughout his career as ‘The Wizard’, due to his long and bushy beard.

But Mason, when asked if he would be stopping shaving to live up to that image, laughed: “Absolutely not.”

Last year, the younger Whitlock went viral with an incredible nine-darter.

Playing at the Modus Super Series in Portsmouth, Mason finished with a rare double-18, just as his father was known to do.
