STUDENTS who claim to live in a cockroach-infested flat have accused their landlord of “forging” signatures to defend its “filthy” conditions.

The Six Salford Uni undergrads were told outstanding maintenance issues in their property would be resolved before they moved in.

And on July 31 landlords Student Haus, who run digs across the north west, said Peel Mount in Salford was “ready”.

But when the second years moved in the place was a tip with rat poison in bowls, damp walls and slugs slithering all over it.

There was also a broken fire door, boarded up kitchen window, and damp walls, the students allege.

Livid student Finley Heffernan told the BBC: “We didn’t get the house in this state – we just moved in and inherited it but now apparently it’s our issue.

“[Student Haus] said ‘What do you expect from a student property?’ What a ridiculous thing to say, like you expect it to be clean and safe and overall at least liveable.”

When approached by the beeb about the state of the flat, Student Haus produced a waiver form which appeared to have Finley’s signature at the bottom.

Finley vehemently denied ever agreeing or even signing the waiver.

After being examined by handwriting expert Elisabeth Briggs, she believes the landlords superimposed the student’s signature from the tenancy agreement.

She concluded: “No two people will ever sign exactly alike.”

Finley said he was “shocked” Student Haus “falsified” the waiver.

Khan Saleemi, operations director at Mistoria Group, which owns Student Haus, said he was taking the forgery allegations “very seriously”.

But he said the students were “advised on the phone and when they came into our office that the property was not ready and they should not be moving in”.

He added all the maintenance work identified “had been completed”.
