His mum Chloe Darbyshire, 22, rushed outside after hearing Kaiden’s screams, with the bull terrier shaking him like a doll.
The dog only let go when brave neighbours kicked it in the head and whacked it with a broom.
Little Kaiden suffered serious injuries to his leg, hands and ear.
Chloe told ChronicleLive: “I could see Kaiden getting pulled across the road by a dog.
“Even when we got the dog off and got him up it was coming back for him.
“He was screaming and he looked run down, like he had been trying to get away – his trainers were ripped off his feet.
“Kaiden wouldn’t let us look at his injuries. but when we got him comfy we realised how serious it was.”
Chloe waited an hour for an ambulance to arrive and take Kaiden to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
She said: “He’s had surgery, he’s had his ear stitched, he’s had his hand stitched, but the biggest scar will be on the back of his leg.”
Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 4.30pm yesterday police received a report that a dog had injured a child in the Maple Street area of Ashington.
