A NATO air chief yesterday denied forcing his tongue into an Army captain’s mouth, telling a court martial: “I don’t even do that to my wife.”

Wing commander Jolyon Goodwin is accused of trying to snog the Scandinavian officer at a booze-fuelled fancy dress bash in Germany last July.

Goodwin insisted the advance was not sexual and was horrified when told to “f*** off in no uncertain terms”.

The RAF boss said: “She was looking at me intently. This led me to think she was leaning in for a kiss.

“Stuff was just happening and she was right in my face and I just thought, ‘OK, mwah’. She said, ‘What are you doing?’, and I said, ‘I don’t know, sorry.’

“It was just a stupid moment. The kiss was on the lips, it was just a ‘mwah’.

“It was the sort of kiss you would give your mate’s wife who you know quite well.

“There were lots of mentions of me sticking my tongue down her throat.

“I didn’t do that. I don’t even do that to my wife.”

Goodwin, of Allied Air Command at Ramstein, said he had drunk shots and beers, danced with scores of officers and had a lightsaber fight at the bash at Kaiserslautern football stadium.

He added of the kiss with the officer, 22 years his junior: “I’m still of the belief it was consensual but she misinterpreted it.

“It was an honest mistake. I misread her values.”

The Army officer said she was in the dining area when Goodwin pounced.

She said: “He stuck his tongue in my mouth. I did not kiss him back. I pushed him away.”

Goodwin, who led a team of electronic warfare experts against IS, was later confronted about his behaviour by a fellow officer.

He replied: “F***ing hell, I get like this when I am drinking. I have to stop. I am f***ing my life up.”

He denies sexual assault.

The court martial is due to conclude today.
